Twas the night before...

T’was the night before Christmas and all thru the teepee

Not an eyelid was shut because nobody was sleepy.

The Wal-Mart bags were hung by the fire so neat,

Hoping Chief Nick would fill them up with smoked meat.

The children were nestled all snug in their beds

While visions of fry bread men danced in their heads.

With ya-yah in her kerchief and my hair braided tight

We turned up the scanner to entertain us tonight.

Then all of a sudden a crash we did hear,

The rez dogs started barking but that’s the norm around here.

The moon on the breast of the new falling snow

Gave the luster of midday to my rez car below.

When what do my ndn eyes should appear

But an ndn sleigh with eight tiny reindeer!

With a little rez driver so stoic but quick

I knew in a moment it must be Chief Nick.

More rapid then Rez Ballers the reindeer they came

And he pointed with his lips then called them by name.

On Fancy Dancer, on Smoked Meat, on Thomas and Victor,

On Back Strap, on Philbert, on Black Cloud and Trixster.

Ssshhh! Land beside the teepee, quiet for good reason

We have to be careful it’s deer hunting season.

The stickers on his sleigh read "I love baloney"

Another one said "My other ride is a pony."

The one in the middle said "NDN Power"

There was duct tape and bailing wire holding it together.

When the teepee flap opened I just hung my head,

For I just finished off his stew and fry bread.

He was dressed in full regalia from his head to his moccs,

His outfit fully beaded right down to his socks!

His huckleberry eyes twinkled, his braids were like WOW!

You have to see it for yourself, he was just … somehow!

The stump of his peace pipe held tight in his teeth

And the smoke signals encircled his head like a wreath.

His face was kind of greasy and he was ndn size,

He had a commod bod only a skin could recognize.

He spoke not a word just flashed his Tribal ID.

He left a block of cheese and new tape recorder under the tree.

He left hand drums and blankets and round dance CDs,

Huckleberry pies and the new N Cree!

Then he pointed with his lips, gave a big hearty AYYE!

And he danced out the door and jumped in his sleigh.

I heard him exclaim as he flew out of sight

Merry Christmas to all!  Let’s round dance tonight!

Food Safety Modernization Act / Senate Bill S 510

This was sent to me from a good friend, I felt it needed to be shared

Food Safety Modernization Act / Senate Bill S 510

I'm sending some information on something I heard today that is scaring me, well, actually making me angry.

I heard today on my local station (KGVO 1290 am) that the Senate was going to deliberate on a bill that will fundamentally change our food resources as we know them.  There was a similar bill in the House that has already been passed.

Tomorrow is supposed to be the first day of the lame duck session, but I heard this bill was being looked at today in the Senate.  I can't find corroborating evidence that the Senate bill was actually presented today.  However, since it has been passed in the House, I think we all need to write all our Congressmen ASAP and let them know how we feel.

Here is a little quip from a neighbor of mine who has looked into it just a little:

"Tried to do a little research on this S 510, but couldn't find anything at all on Snopes.  It is called the Food Safety Modernization Act.
Apparently this bill was written by the CEO of Monsanto, who will be waiting for an appointment as Food Czar if and when it passes.
Of course, then Monsanto would have total control over all food produced in this country.  It will even make it illegal for individuals to have seeds!  It would go into effect in the event of some unnamed or under described "emergency."

This bill puts all our food resources in the hands of the Home Security department - which if you've been paying attention can't even safeguard our countries' borders against illegal aliens and those who wish to harm us, nor make appropriate decisions to do so.

So, all you backyard gardeners - whether you grow produce for fun or food, forget it.  You will not be allowed to and if you try, you could be arrested and have your garden confiscated or at the least, ravished.  Forget about the farmer's market because it will be against the law to give or sell any produce to a neighbor, etc.

Senator Tester (democrat, Montana) has co-authored an amendment that would allow small growers to be exempt - but don't be swayed by that - once the feds get their foot in the door, they can find their way around any amendment.  And who decides what a small grower is?  And does this bill protect us against the salmonella infected or harmful food we've gotten from China?  Personally, I believe not.

Coupled with this is the artificial inflation that is being initiated by our Federal Reserves that will drive food prices through the roof - called QE2 - because if I understand this correctly, they've already done QE1 (quantitative easing) which is supposed to inflate the US dollar to make us more level with the other countries in the power of our dollar - in other words, bring our buying and selling power down, and bringing up the third world countries to be more equal to us in our purchasing power.

So, in a year, the average person won't be able to afford buying food and we will not be able to grow it.

OK, think I'm nuts - I know my aunt does - either that or she doesn't want to accept what's going on because this is almost too much for us Americans to tale in - that our government would purposely put us in harms way.

But just think what this administration has been able to accomplish in less than two years.  Our unemployment is pretty steady at 10% (unless you want to take into consideration that it's really closer to 17% counting the people who have been on it so long they are no longer counted, and have given up, or the underemployed that are working part time and need a full time position, and etc.)  And take into consideration that almost half of the private sector has now been consumed by the government . . . the banking system, the medical arena, some car companies, and now what . . . The Food Industry???

And remember that they feds haven't been able to be trusted with our Social Security and that I will never be able to retire although I was promised that at 65 I could retire.  And that current retirees haven't received a COLA for two years (although the congressmen have certainly gotten their raises).  And remember they have mismanaged also our Medicare and now are taking money out of that to pay for their obamacare which which will be used to pay for abortions and medical care for illegal aliens.  And don't forget our bankrupt social security has also been used to pay for illegal aliens.

If you want to ever bring a country down to its knees, make the populace hungry!  And this administration is trying to do that, physically, financially, and morally.

Personally, this food thing is the straw that is breaking my back.  Please write to everyone you know and stand up to this affront to our life, liberty and our pursuit of happiness.

Once again, I ask you to contact your representatives in both the house and senate.  Tell them absolutely no.  The house bill was passed and now the senate bill may be on the table.  If the senate passes their bill they'll send it down to the house, then over to the president.  We all know he'll sign it because he wants more control over you and I.

One last suggestion - buy a few more groceries as long as you can afford to - and hide your seeds  LOL

A Gathering of Eagles Pow Wow

What a wonderful end to a Great pow wow season!  This small gathering has quickly become one of our favorite 'vacation' pow wows.  We worked pretty good here, but it is such peaceful grounds, wonderful locals, and the land owners are some of the most hospitable people you will ever meet.

Every state flag is set around the rustic benched out circle.  A Creek encampment and row of teepee lodges on the north end of the grounds, with their respective inhabitants.  The town of 'Eagleville' at the south end of the grounds, where the cowboy shootout happens when the bank gets robbed.  Little Wolf had his children's village set up as well, and the train rides, flute playing, and storytelling rounded out a fantastic weekend.  If you are ever around Folkston, GA at this time, I would highly recommend stopping in to Dance, Camp, Shop, and relax at this event.

The following was sent to me by my good friend, and as she puts it, "Our God is right on time!"

Thank you Michele - I Love You

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives.  Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some unfaithful friends and some genuine enemies.  Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and sincere people may deceive you.  Be honest and sincere anyway.

What you spend years creating, others could destroy overnight.  Create anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, some may be jealous.  Be happy anyway.

The good you do today, will often be forgotten.  Do good anyway.

Give the best you have, and it will never be enough.  Give your best anyway.

In the final analysis, it is between you and God.  It was never between you and them anyway

Black Walnut Harvest

Most of my FB friends know that I have been working of the Black Walnut Trees here.  It has been a real Learning experience, and the Funny thing is - I DO NOT like Walnuts At ALL LOL!!!

There is MUCH more to these trees than just the Nut Fruit, however!  The Leaves, Bark and Green Hull around the Nut have been used for medicine for years.  Below are some facts copied from websites that you might find interesting.   As I say, it has been very enlightening to work with this Medicine.

Black Walnut oxygenates the blood to kill parasites. The brown stain found in the green husk contains organic iodine which has antiseptic and healing properties. It is also used to balance sugar levels and burn up excessive toxins and fatty... materials.

Pet owners love to use Black Walnut as a natural worming option and it is also used in heartworm programs for a safer approach to killing them than the drugs.

Black Walnut (Juglans nigra) is a rich source of the trace mineral chromium and is also high in iodine. The unripe hulls of the black walnut are high in vitamin C.

There is my work area for removing the hulls and soaking the Kernels.  I wore gloves, but my hands are Black.  Anyway, I will have Walnuts and Dried Hull Powder available.  I am trying to process as much as I can to take advantage of what has been provided by Mother Earth.   There was also a Branch that had to be removed from one of the trees, so I will get some bark too.

Many Projects in the Works!

Looks like we are going to do one more event before taking a much needed rest and restock.  It has been 4 years without a break on the pow wow trail, Florida in the Fall/Winter/Spring then North as far as Virginia all Summer and back again.  I have just restocked on the fly and "Dabbled" with the online shop.  I will soon be revising, updating and adding more inventory to the Artfire shop.

I have a new and exciting beading technique I taught myself from a French website. I still have some Breyers Ponies to Paint!

So basically, I will be promoting the shop and any new product I am working on throughout the winter.  As Always Much Love and many Thanks to all my blogg readers, and Mega ShoutZ to my FB peeps.

Col. Cobb's Corn Maze Pow Wow

This was like a Farmland Theme Park!! They had: Slides (several), Cow Jumparoo, Petting Zoo, Corn Maze (In the pattern of Spider!!!!), Pumpkin Patch, Haunted House, Pedal-Cart Racetrack, Hayride (with Native American Storytelling and music track), Bonfire, and Helicopter Rides!!! Oh yaa and the NDN's were doing something there too LOL!!  We were in between the Cow Jumparoo and the BIG slide EGAD what a headache of screaming kids!

The Micham Farm does this every weekend in October and this year they decided to add the pow wow.  Well it costs $8 per person to enter the grounds, and most had a child or 3 with them.  So financially this was not very good, there is Potential there, but in my opinion the locals had no interest in the NDN's.  The Dance was great, and was good to see the GA peeps one more time this season.  We ALWAYS make the event a Positive one and found some Great people to sit with.  Little Eagle and Levi Walker to name a few - It was an honor.

There are just s couple more events left for the season here in Georgia, so I will be working on fattening up the Online Shop and working on websites.  The Black Walnut trees are giving up their medicine and I am working on drying and grinding the husks.  Let me know if anyone is in need of this.

As always I want to Praise Creator and give Thanks for all that is provided to us on this most important walk in life.

This week I was brought to Psalm 44, more specifically verse 8:  In God we boast all the day long, and praise thy name forever. Se'lah.

It talks about being cast off and put to shame - Thou makest us a byword among the heathen, a shaking of the head amongst the people. (v. 14)

I believe this is the Test of our Faith to know that no matter what happens in our walk of life, that as long as you are saved with the faith of the Creator, you WILL go on and be rewarded. For He knows what is TRUELY in your heart and you cannot hide it from HimShall not God search this out?  for he knoweth the secrets of the heart. (v. 21)

Veterans Pow Wow in Euharlee, GA

6th Euharlee Veterans Pow Wow

This was a Wonderful Experience in All Directions.  The Park facilities were very nice with woods trail and bridges around a small creek and a Rustic Barn  Structure which served to conceal the Restrooms (No Showers).  There was a small amphitheater/pavilion that was perfect for the Drums that came.  A great Variety of Hand Picked Vendors surrounded the Beautifully set Dance Circle made of dead fall Cedarwood logs set on rebar at just the perfect height for Children and Photographers alike!

The Dancers came out to Honor ALL Veterans in one of the the Grandest Entries I have seen!    The Locals came out both days and were very Happy that the pow wow had returned.  Apparently there were a couple years that they could not have the pow wow.

My Travelling Stone actually had an amazing journey this weekend.  It wasn't until we were packing up Sunday evening that I noticed it was gone!  I was bummed, but after all it was a travelling stone and eventually it would be rolling on to its next keeper.  And for some reason I kept looking under the tables as I was packing out - and I stood out front of the shop scanning the grounds as all the other vendors packed.  I just felt that it was on the Ground somewhere.  All in all, it was well after dark before the entire caravan we travelled with was ready to go.  I gave Janell a Big hug, she looked Wiped Out, but the Successful event her and Joey had helped put together was finally coming to a close.  I mentioned that my Round Rock had taken a walk from shop and she said, "wait a minute".  Turns out one of the kids had picked it up (Found it in the circle!) and was playing with it.   I identified it by the blue boat paint on it and Thanked the boy that had found it.  OK, so I guess it wasn't time for it to move on yet

It was a good time with good people and if you are ever in the area come and see this Beautiful Park.  I am off to restock the shop before our next endeavor.

Much Love and many prayers

Spirit of the Veteran and Warrior Pow Wow

We just got back from this Wonderful Pow wow in Dayton, TN.  Such Great Spirit and support from the Locals.  This is only the second year for this pow wow and it is put on by Jimmy Wisowl and New World Promotions.  It is in a small park on the water,  there is limited electricity, and primitive camping was available.  If you get a chance next year you should come see this growing event.  The Ole man worked as Keeper of the Circle (Uncle Jimmy doesn't like the term AD) and I worked my little butt of in the shop, so I didn't get ANY pictures or video   Sorry - But it was very good for us, and we very much needed it.

I was very honored to sell my first Two  beaded key-chains this weekend.  I was even more honored that they were bought, one by a full blood Eastern Band Cherokee and the other by a full blood Lakota from Pine Ridge.  I have developed a short version which will sell for $25 and a full version of the patterns which will sell for $30.  The Veteran ribbon ones will sell for $20, because the patterns are a bit easier and go a little quicker.  I am really happy with the beading software I have that helped me develop the patterns for these, it is called Bead Tool if anyone is interested and they have a version 4 now which I am hoping to make a few more sales to be able to purchase it.

Anyways, we are getting ready to get rolling on some pow wows here in Georgia, so I may not be online to FB and play games as much.  I am spending more time on my Artfire shop, as it is doing well for me too, so I need to list more items and restock on some beadwork that has sold.  And anyone that has done beadwork knows, it takes some time!

I hope everyone is doing well and in good health.  I close with a passage that was showed me this morning in my readings - Love and prayers to all of you - stay safe ~wrulf

Hear the word of the Lord, ye that tremble at his word; Your brethren that hated you, that cast you out for my name's sake, said, Let the Lord be glorified: but he shall appear to your joy, and they shall be ashamed.  Isaiah 66:5

Struggles? Find Comfort in these Words

In these trying time, I look around and see many struggling people.  We all may be struggling with Different issues and it seems that it is Not enough that people are sympathizing with your pain.  Many responses are "We are all going through things such as that"  and does that really comfort us when we are struggling to understand What is really going on?  Maybe, to a degree - or even to hear a more painful story from another ~ Does that make your pain less?  I doubt it.  You can hide behind the " Just look around and you will see there are others that have it far worse than you"  And there is!  But, the only REAL Comfort when you are in a Struggle is to look to the one who Created us.

I am Not a preacher, BUT, I do what I am Told.  This was brought to me this morning and I BEG all of you that are struggling, PLEASE Absorb the words below, let them fill that dark spot that may be starting within you.

Much Love and Many Prayers

Psalm 69

King James Version

1Save me, O God; for the waters are come in unto my soul.

2I sink in deep mire, where there is no standing: I am come into deep waters, where the floods overflow me.

3I am weary of my crying: my throat is dried: mine eyes fail while I wait for my God.

4They that hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of mine head: they that would destroy me, being mine enemies wrongfully, are mighty: then I restored that which I took not away.

5O God, thou knowest my foolishness; and my sins are not hid from thee.

6Let not them that wait on thee, O Lord GOD of hosts, be ashamed for my sake: let not those that seek thee be confounded for my sake, O God of Israel.

7Because for thy sake I have borne reproach; shame hath covered my face.

8I am become a stranger unto my brethren, and an alien unto my mother's children.

9For the zeal of thine house hath eaten me up; and the reproaches of them that reproached thee are fallen upon me.

10When I wept, and chastened my soul with fasting, that was to my reproach.

11I made sackcloth also my garment; and I became a proverb to them.

12They that sit in the gate speak against me; and I was the song of the drunkards.

13But as for me, my prayer is unto thee, O LORD, in an acceptable time: O God, in the multitude of thy mercy hear me, in the truth of thy salvation.

14Deliver me out of the mire, and let me not sink: let me be delivered from them that hate me, and out of the deep waters.

15Let not the waterflood overflow me, neither let the deep swallow me up, and let not the pit shut her mouth upon me.

16Hear me, O LORD; for thy lovingkindness is good: turn unto me according to the multitude of thy tender mercies.

17And hide not thy face from thy servant; for I am in trouble: hear me speedily.

18Draw nigh unto my soul, and redeem it: deliver me because of mine enemies.

19Thou hast known my reproach, and my shame, and my dishonour: mine adversaries are all before thee.

20Reproach hath broken my heart; and I am full of heaviness: and I looked for some to take pity, but there was none; and for comforters, but I found none.

21They gave me also gall for my meat; and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.

22Let their table become a snare before them: and that which should have been for their welfare, let it become a trap.

23Let their eyes be darkened, that they see not; and make their loins continually to shake.

24Pour out thine indignation upon them, and let thy wrathful anger take hold of them.

25Let their habitation be desolate; and let none dwell in their tents.

26For they persecute him whom thou hast smitten; and they talk to the grief of those whom thou hast wounded.

27Add iniquity unto their iniquity: and let them not come into thy righteousness.

28Let them be blotted out of the book of the living, and not be written with the righteous.

29But I am poor and sorrowful: let thy salvation, O God, set me up on high.

30I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving.

Worm Experiment

Worm Experiment

A minister decided that a visual demonstration would add emphasis to his Sunday sermon.

Four worms were placed into four separate jars.

The first worm was put into a container of alcohol.

The second worm was put into a container of cigarette smoke.

The third worm was put into a container of chocolate syrup.

The fourth worm was put into a container of good clean soil.

At the conclusion of the sermon, the Minister reported the following results:

The first worm in alcohol - Dead.

The second worm in cigarette smoke - Dead.

Third worm in chocolate syrup - Dead.

Fourth worm in good clean soil - Alive.

So the Minister asked the congregation - What can you learn from this demonstration?

A little old woman in the back quickly raised her hand and said,

"As long as you drink, smoke and eat chocolate, you won't have worms!"

Florida Pow Wow Updates!!!

After much ADO and pulling teeth, I have most of the Florida Fall Pow Wow dates.  I still need dates and info for Live Oak and Leesburg, and apparently Odessa is going to be in December now instead of September.  (I also need the 2011 Fall dates, but I am not holding my breath for them;) I have uploaded the Printable Florida Fall list onto the website or just visit this link:

I have also heard tell of a pow wow being at the Veterans Retirement Home in Ft McCoy, but they certainly are NOT advertising it on their website.   Hmmmmm I wonder why attendance is down at Florida pow wows?!?!  When I looked up Florida on there was the Flute festival and the AIA Orlando pow wow listed for the fall.

I have my website as a service for the people, because was so difficult to navigate at times.  I try to list as many pow wows as I can, from Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Ohio, and such southeastern states.  Many promoters have caught on and email me the info as it becomes ready, BUT some I have to track down and the dates are not even available until a month or so before the event.

Times are tough, the economy has people being very careful where they spend their "extra" money.  We need to have the info on these events out there for the people!!

Anyways,  the pow wow page on the dot com is getting longer each year as people find it and email me.  Please feel free to email me any feedback to improve it, or any events, please share the link with your networks, and THANK YOU for all your support.  We have gone over 30,000 hits on the pow wow page (and I am just over 5,000 on the home page LOL)

Much Love and many prayers ~ see you down the pow wow trail

Pow Wow in the Mountains of Virginia

Wow!! 2 weeks strait pow wowing and NO Chance to have Pow wow hangover LOL!!  Squatting somewheres in Tennessee at the moment.

As always, I absolutely LOVE this pow wow.  Truely my Favorite Summer pow wow, the grounds, the people, the Peace.  We got a few peeps from Floriduh up here with us this year ~ Really cool!! Spotted Pony and Paul DeLuna set-up with us at both pow wows.  Nelson & Cyndy came up for both as well.  Was really Cool to see Royce at Clemmons - check out the pics!

Also, Arvel Bird performed in Virginia this year which was a very special treat.  I asked a lot of our friends up here if they had ever seen him and they had Not ever heard of him, but BOY did they Absolutely LOVE him by the time the weekend was over

As ALL pow wows are Reunions, It was so Great to re-unite with old friends and family.  Hoping to see them all again down the trail this summer.

Ok, so on Saturday Ken Watson did his gig and all of a sudden, I hear dance bells jammin with the music, outside and to the right of my shop.  I look up from beading and a few people standing just outside my shop say, "You Gotta SEE this!"  So I grab my camera and get up there to see the dancers Jammin' to Kenny and really gettin' down!!  Shame I didn't have the camcorder, but check out the stills HERE.  On Sunday, the dancers that were still here when Kenny went on, did the same thing and they kinda re-created the impromtu dance we had on Saturday, so Check out the YouTube videos I got on that.  Unfortunately Uncle Jack wan't Jammin' on Sunday, He sure was gettin' down on Saturday though

At Tangleweood the week before I got a special order to bead several feathers.  Here they are Dancing the following week!!

I think I SERIOUSLY need a Vacation, it's only been 4 years since I have had a true vacation - I know, "what am I complaining about" But YEAAAAA I think I am taking a vacation

Strong Sun Festival 2010

This year's Strong Sun Festival that has been in Winston-Salem was moved to a bigger facility at Tanglewood Park in Clemmons, NC.  What an AWESOME venue for a pow wow!!  There is a campground, Botanical Gardens, Native American Medicine Wheel, Amphitheater, Golf Course and much more.  As always, this Pow wow keeps getting bigger and reaching more people.  I was only able to get a couple videos of a Grand Entry and I have some pictures uploading as well.

It was really GREAT to re-unite with old friends and family from the trail.  We even had Many people up from Florida for this one!  If you are in the area next year, this is definitely a Pow wow to visit.

Please Call if you Love our Children

I just got this e-mail from a good friend of ours.  I know with the way the economy is going that this is Not uncommon, BUT if we do not "Pull the Reins" on THIS, what kind of Future will we have?  Please pass this along as you see fit.

After 13 years of touching the future through our children's education I was laid off this year due to budget cuts in the school system. If you have children , going to have children, or even care about the future of our children who will run this country one day PLEASE call 1-866-608-6355 and let congress know you want the emergency funding bill to include education for this country of ours. Simply tell them what state you are from and they will hook you up to your congressman's office. Please forward this to friends and family so we can make an impact, Thank you

Just take the time to look around you, there are signs, there are messengers, if we choose to Look and Listen for them.

We have been staying here for 2 weeks now and this patch of Lichen is Glowing of the message of

Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.
