If you are looking for a weekend full of festivities, make plans now to attend the 21st Annual Trade Days Festival, just off Highway 421 South near the Tennessee/North Carolina State Line. Much is offered in the way of entertainment with new exhibits and shows for 2009 and of course the Indian pow-wow. Donnie Freeman and his Inter-Tribal Pow-Wow will be returning this year. Don’t miss this educational as well as entertaining and spectacular event with Native American Tribes in their native dress. This year the pow-wow will feature competition drumming and dancing. This year our annual gathering of tribes from throughout the Americas takes its rightful place as the finest showcase of native dance, art, and culture in the southeast. The Festival of Native Peoples is an exposition of non-competitive dance, storytelling, and song performances expressing the collected history, culture, tradition, and wisdom of the indigenous peoples of the Americas. Entertainment throughout the day will include a replica of an Apache dwelling with audience participation, hoop dancing, flute music, and Cherokee storytellers. Other performers include the Halau Palaihiwa O Kaipuwai, Hopi Senom Dance Group, Phoenix, Arizona - Ambassador's of the State of Arizona and the Yellow Bird Apache champion dancers who have been performing for presidents and heads of state for 22 years Gates open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily with performances throughout the day. Restrooms and shower facilities are on pow wow grounds. Camper/trailer slips with water, sewer and electric hook-up are also available to all participants and their family members however these spaces require a fee that must be paid directly to the American Legion.(to reserve one of these spaces please contact Jim Lone Eagle at (336) 983-3608) Gates open at 5:00 pm Friday and Grand Entry is 7:00 pm.
