When Your Hut's On Fire

When Your Hut's On Fire

The only survivor of a shipwreck was washed up on a small, uninhabited island. He prayed feverishly for God to rescue him. Every day he scanned the horizon for help, but none seemed forthcoming.

Exhausted, he eventually managed to build a little hut out of driftwood to protect himself from the elements, and to store his few possessions. One day, after scavenging for food, he arrived home to find his little hut in flames, with smoke rolling up to the sky. He felt the worst had happened, and everything was lost. He was stunned with disbelief, grief, and anger. He cried out, 'God! How could you do this to me?'

Early the next day, he was awakened by the sound of a ship approaching the island! It had come to rescue him! 'How did you know I was here?' asked the weary man of his rescuers. 'We saw your smoke signal,' they replied.

The Moral of This Story:
It's easy to get discouraged when things are going bad, but we shouldn't lose heart, because God is at work in our lives, even in the midst of our pain and suffering.
Remember that the next time your little hut seems to be burning to the ground.
It just may be a smoke signal that summons
the Grace of God.

P.S. Consider passing this on, because you never know who feels as if their hut is on fire today..

A Child's View of Thunderstorms

A Child's View of Thunderstorms

A little girl walked to and from school daily. Though the weather that morning was questionable and clouds were forming, she made her daily trek to school. As the afternoon progressed, the winds whipped up, along with lightning.
The mother of the little girl felt concerned that her daughter would be frightened as she walked home from school. She also feared the electrical storm might harm her child. Full of concern, the mother got into her car and quickly drove along the route to her child's school.  As she did, she saw her little girl walking along.
At each flash of lightning, the child would stop, look up, and smile.  More lighting followed quickly and with each, the little girl would look at the streak of light and smile.
When the mother drew up beside the child, she lowered the window and called, "What are you doing?" The child answered, "I am trying to look pretty because God keeps taking my picture."

May God bless you today and every day as you face the storms that come your way!

Let me get this straight

Let me get this straight . . . .

We're going to be "gifted" with a health care
plan we are forced to purchase and
fined if we don't,

Which purportedly covers at least
ten million more people,

without adding a single new doctor,
but provides for 16,000 new IRS agents,

written by a committee whose chairman
says he doesn't understand it
,

passed by a Congress that didn't read it but
exempted themselves from it,

and signed by a President who smokes,

with funding administered by a treasury chief who
didn't pay his taxes,

for which we'll be taxed for four years before any
benefits take effect,

by a government which has
already bankrupted Social Security and Medicare,

all to be overseen by a surgeon general
who is obese,

and financed by a country that's broke!!!!!

possibly go wrong?

The Fire and the Spider

The Fire and the Spider

From - Myths, Legends and Old Sayings, by Hastings Shade

Many, many years ago when the earth was still cold and dark, animals, birds and insects could still communicate but there was no fire. The Indians needed fire to stay warm and to cook with.

At this time, however there was a race of giants who had fire and were called The Fire People. All the animals got together and decided that they should get some fire from the Fire People. The bear went first since he was the strongest. He came back and told the other animals that he had indeed tried his best, but that he had been unable to get any fire. Just then, the animals heard a tiny voice,

"Let me try," said the spider. They laughed and said, "You're too small."

But as each animal tried and returned with the sad news that they had failed, the spider's small voice was still heard saying, "Let me try". Finally she was the only one left, so they agreed to let her try. Spider fashioned a small clay pot with a lid on it and put it on her back as she started toward the fire. As she approached the fire, it began to grow light. When she finally reached the fire, she put a small ember into the clay pot.

Immediately the fire was missed by the Fire People. They looked all over for the missing fire. The spider would run a little ways and stop until she got right to the water's edge. The Fire People were almost on top of her, but they were afraid of the water, because they new it would put them out. Spider slipped into the water, so the Fire People figured that the fire she had stolen had been put out. So they went away thinking that their fire was safe. What they didn't know was that the ember had baked the clay pot to be water proof. So when the Fire People left, the spider came out of the water and brought the fire to the Indians. This is the Sacred Fire of the Cherokees.

Some tips on better camping

Going Camping?

Some tips on better camping:

-- When using a public campground, a tuba placed on your picnic table will keep the campsites on either side vacant.

-- Get even with a bear who raided your food bag by kicking his favorite stump apart and eating all the ants.

-- Old socks can be made into high fiber beef jerky by smoking them over an open fire. -- When smoking a fish, never inhale.

-- A hot rock placed in your sleeping bag will keep your feet warm. A hot enchilada works almost as well, but the cheese sticks between your toes.

-- While the Swiss Army Knife has been popular for years, the Swiss Navy Knife has remained largely unheralded. Its single blade functions as a tiny canoe paddle.

-- Lint from your navel makes a handy fire starter. Warning: Remove lint from navel before applying the match.

-- You can compress the diameter of your rolled up sleeping bag by running over it with your car.

New Year and on to New Things

Thank you everyone for all the cards and prayers sent over this holiday season.   I don't celebrate them much but it was nice to be thought of  whilst we make our way through the end of another year.

I haven't blogged much, due to the fact that we are  not travelling this winter.  I try to post encouraging articles ever so often, to let you all know that I am thinking about each and Every one of you.  I have several New things in the works for this year.  First of which is my online shop, which I am happy to say is doing well.

http://www.artfire.com/users/SixDirectionsTraders

In fact, I was able to open an Etsy shop as well.  The Etsy shop will be mainly to sell beads, pendants, and components.

http://www.etsy.com/shop/SixDirectionsTraders

Recently I have been designing and beading brick stitch picture earrings.  I am trying to make a couple of the same pattern in different color schemes to fatten up the store inventory.  As I am listing them in the online shop, I name the different color schemes and designs, so I can keep track of them.  My good friend Tarponjuli was so honored that I named the Lizard pattern after her, that she purchased the first one!  Thanks so much Juli, it means a lot to me.  So, above is pictured the next pair I made of the Lizard Tarponjuli earrings, and after putting the loop for the ear hook I realized it was upside down.  So I cut the thread tied it off and started another thread to re-do the ear hook loop of beads.  Then as I am finishing the last knot, I notice that I did the same exact thing!!! It was still upside down!!  LOL  Ok, so do I just keep it that way?  Or try for a third time to put the loop where I want it to be?!?

I have been hard at work on the web sites, there are updates beginning on the NEW 2011 pow wow page.  There is another section of my website that is a feed from a pow wow listing site.  PowWowTime.com started out listing pow wows in the Western half of the United States, and they are expanding to listing the entire country.

The Printable Florida Pow Wow List for  Spring 2011 is updated Here:

http://www.sixdirectionstraders.com/spring2011list.doc

Listings in red do not have confirmed dates as of yet.  And as we have seen recently in Florida, some pow wows have gotten cancelled or changed to different months than they used to be held on.  So, as always, I will do my best to provide as correct information as possible on these events.  But it would be in YOUR best interest to contact someone from the pow wow yourself for more specific questions.

Thundering Spirit Family Pow wow website has begun being updated for the year 2011!  This year is dedicated to:

Encouraging Predictions For 2011

ENCOURAGING PREDICTIONS FOR  2011

With all the problems the World is facing, it can be unsettling to the mind. Today, I will share with you ten predictions that are true!

       1.  The Bible will still have all the answers.

       2.  Prayer will still be the most powerful thing on Earth..

       3.  The Holy Spirit will still move.

       4.  God will still honor the praises of His people.

       5.  There will still be God-anointed preaching.

       6.  There will still be singing of praise to God.

       7.  God will still pour out blessings upon His people.

       8.  There will still be room at the Cross.

       9.  Jesus will still love you.

     10.  Jesus will still save the lost when they come to Him.

Isn't it great to remember who is really in control, and that; "the Word of the Lord endures forever." (1 Peter 1:25)

I hope you found this encouraging!

I sure did, sometimes we need the reminder of just "WHO" is really in control.

Twas the night before...

T’was the night before Christmas and all thru the teepee

Not an eyelid was shut because nobody was sleepy.

The Wal-Mart bags were hung by the fire so neat,

Hoping Chief Nick would fill them up with smoked meat.

The children were nestled all snug in their beds

While visions of fry bread men danced in their heads.

With ya-yah in her kerchief and my hair braided tight

We turned up the scanner to entertain us tonight.

Then all of a sudden a crash we did hear,

The rez dogs started barking but that’s the norm around here.

The moon on the breast of the new falling snow

Gave the luster of midday to my rez car below.

When what do my ndn eyes should appear

But an ndn sleigh with eight tiny reindeer!

With a little rez driver so stoic but quick

I knew in a moment it must be Chief Nick.

More rapid then Rez Ballers the reindeer they came

And he pointed with his lips then called them by name.

On Fancy Dancer, on Smoked Meat, on Thomas and Victor,

On Back Strap, on Philbert, on Black Cloud and Trixster.

Ssshhh! Land beside the teepee, quiet for good reason

We have to be careful it’s deer hunting season.

The stickers on his sleigh read "I love baloney"

Another one said "My other ride is a pony."

The one in the middle said "NDN Power"

There was duct tape and bailing wire holding it together.

When the teepee flap opened I just hung my head,

For I just finished off his stew and fry bread.

He was dressed in full regalia from his head to his moccs,

His outfit fully beaded right down to his socks!

His huckleberry eyes twinkled, his braids were like WOW!

You have to see it for yourself, he was just … somehow!

The stump of his peace pipe held tight in his teeth

And the smoke signals encircled his head like a wreath.

His face was kind of greasy and he was ndn size,

He had a commod bod only a skin could recognize.

He spoke not a word just flashed his Tribal ID.

He left a block of cheese and new tape recorder under the tree.

He left hand drums and blankets and round dance CDs,

Huckleberry pies and the new N Cree!

Then he pointed with his lips, gave a big hearty AYYE!

And he danced out the door and jumped in his sleigh.

I heard him exclaim as he flew out of sight

Merry Christmas to all!  Let’s round dance tonight!

HO-ka! HO-ka! HO-ka!

Food Safety Modernization Act / Senate Bill S 510

This was sent to me from a good friend, I felt it needed to be shared

~wrulf

Food Safety Modernization Act / Senate Bill S 510

I'm sending some information on something I heard today that is scaring me, well, actually making me angry.

I heard today on my local station (KGVO 1290 am) that the Senate was going to deliberate on a bill that will fundamentally change our food resources as we know them.  There was a similar bill in the House that has already been passed.

Tomorrow is supposed to be the first day of the lame duck session, but I heard this bill was being looked at today in the Senate.  I can't find corroborating evidence that the Senate bill was actually presented today.  However, since it has been passed in the House, I think we all need to write all our Congressmen ASAP and let them know how we feel.

Here is a little quip from a neighbor of mine who has looked into it just a little:

"Tried to do a little research on this S 510, but couldn't find anything at all on Snopes.  It is called the Food Safety Modernization Act.
Apparently this bill was written by the CEO of Monsanto, who will be waiting for an appointment as Food Czar if and when it passes.
Of course, then Monsanto would have total control over all food produced in this country.  It will even make it illegal for individuals to have seeds!  It would go into effect in the event of some unnamed or under described "emergency."

This bill puts all our food resources in the hands of the Home Security department - which if you've been paying attention can't even safeguard our countries' borders against illegal aliens and those who wish to harm us, nor make appropriate decisions to do so.

So, all you backyard gardeners - whether you grow produce for fun or food, forget it.  You will not be allowed to and if you try, you could be arrested and have your garden confiscated or at the least, ravished.  Forget about the farmer's market because it will be against the law to give or sell any produce to a neighbor, etc.

Senator Tester (democrat, Montana) has co-authored an amendment that would allow small growers to be exempt - but don't be swayed by that - once the feds get their foot in the door, they can find their way around any amendment.  And who decides what a small grower is?  And does this bill protect us against the salmonella infected or harmful food we've gotten from China?  Personally, I believe not.

Coupled with this is the artificial inflation that is being initiated by our Federal Reserves that will drive food prices through the roof - called QE2 - because if I understand this correctly, they've already done QE1 (quantitative easing) which is supposed to inflate the US dollar to make us more level with the other countries in the power of our dollar - in other words, bring our buying and selling power down, and bringing up the third world countries to be more equal to us in our purchasing power.

So, in a year, the average person won't be able to afford buying food and we will not be able to grow it.

OK, think I'm nuts - I know my aunt does - either that or she doesn't want to accept what's going on because this is almost too much for us Americans to tale in - that our government would purposely put us in harms way.

But just think what this administration has been able to accomplish in less than two years.  Our unemployment is pretty steady at 10% (unless you want to take into consideration that it's really closer to 17% counting the people who have been on it so long they are no longer counted, and have given up, or the underemployed that are working part time and need a full time position, and etc.)  And take into consideration that almost half of the private sector has now been consumed by the government . . . the banking system, the medical arena, some car companies, and now what . . . The Food Industry???

And remember that they feds haven't been able to be trusted with our Social Security and that I will never be able to retire although I was promised that at 65 I could retire.  And that current retirees haven't received a COLA for two years (although the congressmen have certainly gotten their raises).  And remember they have mismanaged also our Medicare and now are taking money out of that to pay for their obamacare which which will be used to pay for abortions and medical care for illegal aliens.  And don't forget our bankrupt social security has also been used to pay for illegal aliens.

If you want to ever bring a country down to its knees, make the populace hungry!  And this administration is trying to do that, physically, financially, and morally.

Personally, this food thing is the straw that is breaking my back.  Please write to everyone you know and stand up to this affront to our life, liberty and our pursuit of happiness.

Once again, I ask you to contact your representatives in both the house and senate.  Tell them absolutely no.  The house bill was passed and now the senate bill may be on the table.  If the senate passes their bill they'll send it down to the house, then over to the president.  We all know he'll sign it because he wants more control over you and I.

One last suggestion - buy a few more groceries as long as you can afford to - and hide your seeds  LOL

A Gathering of Eagles Pow Wow

What a wonderful end to a Great pow wow season!  This small gathering has quickly become one of our favorite 'vacation' pow wows.  We worked pretty good here, but it is such peaceful grounds, wonderful locals, and the land owners are some of the most hospitable people you will ever meet.

Every state flag is set around the rustic benched out circle.  A Creek encampment and row of teepee lodges on the north end of the grounds, with their respective inhabitants.  The town of 'Eagleville' at the south end of the grounds, where the cowboy shootout happens when the bank gets robbed.  Little Wolf had his children's village set up as well, and the train rides, flute playing, and storytelling rounded out a fantastic weekend.  If you are ever around Folkston, GA at this time, I would highly recommend stopping in to Dance, Camp, Shop, and relax at this event.

The following was sent to me by my good friend, and as she puts it, "Our God is right on time!"

Thank you Michele - I Love You

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives.  Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some unfaithful friends and some genuine enemies.  Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and sincere people may deceive you.  Be honest and sincere anyway.

What you spend years creating, others could destroy overnight.  Create anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, some may be jealous.  Be happy anyway.

The good you do today, will often be forgotten.  Do good anyway.

Give the best you have, and it will never be enough.  Give your best anyway.

In the final analysis, it is between you and God.  It was never between you and them anyway

Black Walnut Harvest

Most of my FB friends know that I have been working of the Black Walnut Trees here.  It has been a real Learning experience, and the Funny thing is - I DO NOT like Walnuts At ALL LOL!!!

There is MUCH more to these trees than just the Nut Fruit, however!  The Leaves, Bark and Green Hull around the Nut have been used for medicine for years.  Below are some facts copied from websites that you might find interesting.   As I say, it has been very enlightening to work with this Medicine.

Black Walnut oxygenates the blood to kill parasites. The brown stain found in the green husk contains organic iodine which has antiseptic and healing properties. It is also used to balance sugar levels and burn up excessive toxins and fatty... materials.

Pet owners love to use Black Walnut as a natural worming option and it is also used in heartworm programs for a safer approach to killing them than the drugs.

Black Walnut (Juglans nigra) is a rich source of the trace mineral chromium and is also high in iodine. The unripe hulls of the black walnut are high in vitamin C.

There is my work area for removing the hulls and soaking the Kernels.  I wore gloves, but my hands are Black.  Anyway, I will have Walnuts and Dried Hull Powder available.  I am trying to process as much as I can to take advantage of what has been provided by Mother Earth.   There was also a Branch that had to be removed from one of the trees, so I will get some bark too.

Many Projects in the Works!

Looks like we are going to do one more event before taking a much needed rest and restock.  It has been 4 years without a break on the pow wow trail, Florida in the Fall/Winter/Spring then North as far as Virginia all Summer and back again.  I have just restocked on the fly and "Dabbled" with the online shop.  I will soon be revising, updating and adding more inventory to the Artfire shop.

Col. Cobb's Corn Maze Pow Wow

This was like a Farmland Theme Park!! They had: Slides (several), Cow Jumparoo, Petting Zoo, Corn Maze (In the pattern of Spider!!!!), Pumpkin Patch, Haunted House, Pedal-Cart Racetrack, Hayride (with Native American Storytelling and music track), Bonfire, and Helicopter Rides!!! Oh yaa and the NDN's were doing something there too LOL!!  We were in between the Cow Jumparoo and the BIG slide EGAD what a headache of screaming kids!

The Micham Farm does this every weekend in October and this year they decided to add the pow wow.  Well it costs $8 per person to enter the grounds, and most had a child or 3 with them.  So financially this was not very good, there is Potential there, but in my opinion the locals had no interest in the NDN's.  The Dance was great, and was good to see the GA peeps one more time this season.  We ALWAYS make the event a Positive one and found some Great people to sit with.  Little Eagle and Levi Walker to name a few - It was an honor.

There are just s couple more events left for the season here in Georgia, so I will be working on fattening up the Online Shop and working on websites.  The Black Walnut trees are giving up their medicine and I am working on drying and grinding the husks.  Let me know if anyone is in need of this.

As always I want to Praise Creator and give Thanks for all that is provided to us on this most important walk in life.

This week I was brought to Psalm 44, more specifically verse 8:  In God we boast all the day long, and praise thy name forever. Se'lah.

It talks about being cast off and put to shame - Thou makest us a byword among the heathen, a shaking of the head amongst the people. (v. 14)

I believe this is the Test of our Faith to know that no matter what happens in our walk of life, that as long as you are saved with the faith of the Creator, you WILL go on and be rewarded. For He knows what is TRUELY in your heart and you cannot hide it from HimShall not God search this out?  for he knoweth the secrets of the heart. (v. 21)
